Oats Pongal

Now-a-days many of us are trying to include Oats in our regular diet. Oats are believed to have a lot of health benefits. It is gaining a huge popularity because of its high fiber content and is treated as a good and heavy breakfast items.. So one such recipe with Oats …

Ingredients :

1 cup Quick Oats(Old fashioned Oats)
¼ cup Moong dal
Peppercorns powdered – 2tsp
Water – 3 cups
Ghee + Oil – 2tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Cashew nuts – a fistful
Salt as required
Curry leaves or Cilantro for garnishing.

Method:

  •     First dry roast Moong dal in a pan and pressure cook it with 1 cup of water for 2 whistles.
  •     Heat Oil + Ghee in a pan and splutter in Cumin Seeds. Once they turn brown, add    the cashew nuts.   Add the powdered peppercorn.

  •     Now add 3 cups of water. Once the water starts boiling, add the oats. Keep stirring for 4 to 5 mins.
  • Now add the cooked moong dal.

  • At this stage add chopped coriander leaves or mint leaves.
  •  Garnish with Cilantro or curry leaves.

My Notes:

  •      Take care not to cook Moong dal too mushy. It has to be soft but crunchier to give a good taste to this pongal.
  •      You can use only ghee instead of Oil and Ghee
