Mango Poha Upma/Mango Aval

Aval Upma is generally the quickest snack we can prepare. Also as soon as kids come home, they need to have something filling but still tasty and different !! SO instead of the regular poha upma, I tried this one and  added mango instead of lemon for the sour taste.

Ingredients :
(Serves two)

Thick Poha or Thick flattened rice - 2 cups
Grated Mango  - about 1/4 cup
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Coriander leaves for garnish
Salt to taste

To temper

Oil - 1tsp
Mustard seeds - 1tsp
Chana dal - 1 tsp
Urad dal -1 tsp
Peanuts - 1tsp
Green chillies - 2
Curry Leaves
Ginger - 1 tsp chopped

Method :

  • Soak the thick poha in water just for 10 mins. Drain off the water and keep it ready.
  • Heat oil in a tawa. Add 1 tsp of mustard seeds. Once they Crackle, add urad dal, chana dal and peanuts. Once they turn golden brown add green chillies ,ginger and curry leaves. Now add the grated mango.

  • Saute them till it turns soft.Add salt and turmeric powder. Now add the drained poha  and mix it with the grated mango.

  • Switch off the stove and serve it hot !!!

My Notes :
  • We have to make sure we drain the poha within 10 mins or as soon as we feel it is soft. Else it might turn mushy.
