Tawa Pulao


I haven’t heard of this pulao until I found them through internet just by chance. 
It is a street side food which is very is famous in Mumbai.



It is said to be made on the tawa on which chat is made. 
This is different from the normal pulao or biriyani varities as Pav Bhaji masala is used as  masala . Coming to the recipe ,

Ingredients :
Raw Basmati Rice - 1 cup
Onion – 1
Tomato - 1
Carrot – 1 Big
Potato - 1
Beans – 10
Frozen or fresh Green peas – ¼ cup
Oil- 2tsp
Cumin seeds -1 tsp
Green chillies – 2
Red chilli powder – 1tsp
Garam masala – 1tsp
Pav bhaji masala – 2tsp
Cilantro for garnishing


Method :

  • Cook a cup of Basmati rice and keep it ready. 
  • Add beans, carrot and potato with ½ cup water in a microwave oven for 7 to 8 mins.Drain it and keep them ready.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they turn brown in colour, add green chillies.
  • Sauté the Onions. Once they change into golden brown, add  chopped tomato  pieces. Fry them till the onion tomato mixture gets mushier.
  • Now add the cooked vegetables. Fry them for a couple of minutes.
  • Add Pav Bhaji masala, garam masala, Red chilli powder. Fry them till all the masala powder gets mixed properly with all the vegtables. .
  • Now add the cooked basmati rice.
  • Garnish with Cilantro. Hot Tawa pulao is ready to be served.


My Notes:

While cooking the vegetables take care not to overcook them. They have to be crisp for a good taste.
