SPINACH MASALA DOSA/ PALAK MASALA DOSA

I was bored of the same dosa; idly Tiffin’s daily that I really wanted a change. This is the outcome of that search. Spinach Dosa.

This almost tasted the same dosa taste except that the color was green. I had made potato curry that morning, So we had spinach masala dosa for dinner :)

Ingredients:
(Makes 4 to 5 dosas)

For the dosa :

¾ cup wheat flour
1/2 cup rice flour
Spinach - 1.5 cups tightly packed.
Salt to taste
Green chillies – 2
Ginger – finely chopped
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Hing – a pinch

For the filling :

Potatoes – 3 Medium sized.
Onion – 1
Red chilli powder – 1tsp
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Oil – 2tsp
Mustard seeds – 1tsp
Peanuts – 1 tsp

Method :

For the filling :
  • Cook the potatoes in a  pressure cooker. Keep them ready
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they pop, add peanuts. Roast them for 2 mins.
  • Meanwhile, slice the Onions length wise and add it to the pan.
  • As soon as onion loses its raw smell, mash the potatoes and add them.
  • Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Fry it for a while.
  • Garnish with cilantro. Potato filling is ready for the masala dosa.
For the Spinach Dosas:
  • Grind Spinach, green chillies and ginger to a fine paste.
  • Mix the wheat flour, rice flour, spinach paste, salt, cumin seeds and hing to a thick consistency just like dosa batter.
  • Heat the tawa and pour a ladle full of batter on the tawa.
  • Spread the batter in a circular fashion.
  • Once it is cooked, add the potato filling to make tasty and healthy Masala Dosas!!!

 My Notes :

If u have ready made dosa batter also, you could just do the first step in dosa preparation and mix it to the batter. Spinach dosa batter is ready in a jiffy.
